We all experience sleepless nights from time to time and the effects of lack of sleep and rest are grim: bags and shadows under the eyes, dull skin and an overall feeling of fatigue are the constant companions of sleeplessness. The solution has the name of DuoCalm, a simple yet effective natural remedy to insomnia.
Usually it is something making us anxious that prevents us from sinking into what Shakespeare describes in Macbeth as:
“The death of each day’s life, sore labour’s bath,
Balm of hurt minds, great nature’s second course,
Chief nourisher in life’s feast”.
Insommnia is something I have not experienced, thankfully, as I enjoy a good night’s rest most of the time, but lately, due to some stress and extra work load, I found it difficult to fall asleep. I have never had to resort to any sleeping aids in the past, but I decided to try DuoCalm from Fusionlabs, as the four simple ingredients it contains are familiar to me, as well as pretty old school:
This is one of the oldest medicinal plants known to mankind and has been used for millennia as a gentle calming agent, helping to quiet the mind and relax the body. Dating back to Ancient Egypt, where it was prescribed as a cold remedy, chamomile was used by the Egyptians and the Romans in tea, salves, creams, incenses and other beverages. Today nighttime chamomile tea is commonly used for inducing sleep. It’s also helpful for a variety of stomach problems because of its soothing properties. There’s little research to prove its effectiveness though, so, the proof is in the pudding, or tea, as it were.
Often called Nature’s Valium. This plant has been used for centuries to treat migraine, insomnia, menstrual cramps, hysteria, and various nervous disorders. It is identified as a mild tranquillizer. Again, it has been used medicinally since the time of Ancient Greece and Rome as a sedative and an anti-anxiety treatment, as it is thought to increase the amount of gamma-aminobutyric acid- a compound in the brain that prevents transmission of nerve impulses. Over an extended period of time, its use can help you fall asleep faster and improve sleep quality.
Magnesium is important for the proper muscle function. In Duo Calm, it helps to prevent muscle tension and helps induce relaxation. Apart from this function, magnesium is a vital nutrient for regulating many body processes, including, blood sugar levels and blood pressure. This mineral also supports the making of protein, bone, and DNA. The body finds it easy to absorb magnesium in the form of magnesium glycinate. Insufficient levels of magnesium seem to reduce serotonin levels-“feel-good” chemical in the brain, which is necessary for sleep.
This vitamin is vital for good brain function. It helps the synapses in the brain to fire correctly and it’s also a powerful antioxidant that helps the body to heal and relax. Bananas, nuts and seeds, cottage cheese, eggs, and chickpeas are all good sources of Vitamin B6. If you’re vegan, you may need to take a supplement to keep your levels topped up. Vitamin B6 is beneficial because it converts the amino acid tryptophan into serotonin, the “feel-good” chemical in the brain I mentioned before.
DuoCalm is natural and has no side effects
Each of these ingredients in DuoCalm is naturally-sourced and tested for purity.
I enjoyed a good night’s sleep after taking one tablet consecutively for about a week. Once I got back to my normal sleep pattern, I stopped taking the tablets. I had no nasty side effects, and I am not on any other medication. However, if you suffer from any chronic medical condition, it would be advisable to consult your doctor before using this product.
The next time I travel overseas, I will probably take one on my overnight flight to ensure that I get my beauty sleep!
Unless I fly first class….
